Support Ticket Management System Using ReactJS and Spring Boot

The Support Ticket Management System is a full-stack web application designed to help organisations manage customer support tickets, complaints, issues, and service requests from a centralised platform.

The project is developed using ReactJS for the frontend and Spring Boot for the backend, with Spring Security and JWT Authentication used to secure the application. MySQL is used as the database, while REST APIs provide communication between the frontend and backend.

The application follows a role-based access control system with separate modules for Admin, Support Agent, and User. Each role has different responsibilities and access permissions within the application.

This project is an excellent choice for students and developers who want to learn Java Full Stack Development, ReactJS, Spring Boot, REST API development, Spring Security, JWT authentication, and MySQL.

What is a Support Ticket Management System?

A Support Ticket Management System is a software application that helps organizations manage customer issues and service requests efficiently.

Instead of managing customer complaints through emails, spreadsheets, or manual processes, users can create support tickets through the application. Support agents can then review, manage, and update those tickets based on their priority and current status.

The system provides a centralized platform for tracking the complete ticket lifecycle—from ticket creation to resolution.

For example, a customer can create a ticket for a technical problem. A support agent can review the ticket, update its status, manage its priority, and work toward resolving the issue. Administrators can monitor the overall support process and manage users and agents.

Support Ticket Management System Project Overview

The main objective of this project is to develop a secure and scalable customer support ticket management application using ReactJS and Spring Boot.

The application provides separate modules for:

  • 👨‍💼 Admin
  • 🎧 Support Agent
  • 🙋 User

Each role has its own responsibilities and access permissions.

The frontend is developed using ReactJS, which provides an interactive and responsive user interface. The backend is developed using Spring Boot, which exposes REST APIs for business operations and database communication.

Spring Security with JWT authentication is used to protect application resources and provide secure role-based access.

The project uses MySQL to store application data.

Technologies Used

The following technologies are used to develop the Support Ticket Management System:

Frontend

  • ReactJS
  • JavaScript
  • HTML
  • CSS
  • Responsive UI

Backend

  • Java
  • Spring Boot
  • Spring Security
  • Spring Data JPA
  • REST APIs
  • JWT Authentication

Database

  • MySQL

Development & API Testing

  • Maven
  • Git/GitHub
  • Postman

The GitHub repository also includes a Postman API collection for the Support Ticket Management application.

Features of Support Ticket Management System

1. Ticket Creation

Users can create support tickets for their problems, complaints, or service requests.

A ticket provides a structured way of communicating an issue to the support team.

Typical ticket information can include:

  • Ticket title
  • Issue description
  • Priority
  • Status
  • User information
  • Support-related information

This makes it easier for support teams to organise and manage customer requests.

2. Ticket Management

Support agents can manage tickets assigned to them and work on resolving customer issues.

The system allows support teams to track tickets throughout their lifecycle.

This provides better visibility into:

  • New tickets
  • Tickets being processed
  • Pending issues
  • Resolved tickets
  • Closed requests

3. Ticket Status Tracking

Ticket status helps users and support agents understand the current state of an issue.

A typical ticket workflow can be represented as:

New → In Progress → Resolved → Closed

Status tracking makes it easier for support teams to prioritise their work and for users to understand the progress of their requests.

4. Priority Management

Not every customer issue has the same level of importance.

The application provides priority management so that support teams can distinguish between different levels of urgency.

For example:

  • Low
  • Medium
  • High
  • Critical

Priority management helps support agents focus on important issues first.

5. Role-Based Login System

The application provides separate access based on the user’s role.

The main roles are:

  • Admin
  • Support Agent
  • User

After authentication, users can access functionality according to their assigned role.

This prevents unauthorised users from accessing administrative or support-specific functionality.

6. Secure Authentication

The application uses Spring Security and JWT Authentication to secure the backend APIs.

The authentication process can be represented as:

Login → Authentication → JWT Token → API Request → Token Validation → Authorized Response

JWT-based authentication allows the frontend application to securely communicate with protected backend APIs.

7. Admin Dashboard

The Admin module provides centralised management functionality.

An administrator can monitor and manage the support system according to the permissions provided by the application.

The Admin module can be used for managing users, support agents, tickets, and other system-level operations.

8. Support Agent Module

The Support Agent is responsible for handling customer support requests.

Support agents can work with tickets and update their status and priority as required.

This module provides support teams with a centralized place to manage customer issues.

9. User Module

Users can access the application to create and manage their support requests.

The User module provides functionality for submitting issues and tracking ticket information.

Modules of Support Ticket Management System

The application is divided into three primary modules.

👨‍💼 Admin Module

The Admin has the highest level of access within the application.

The Admin module is responsible for system-level management such as:

  • Managing users
  • Managing support agents
  • Managing tickets
  • Monitoring support activities
  • Accessing the Admin dashboard
  • Managing application data

The exact permissions depend on the role configuration implemented in the application.

🎧 Support Agent Module

Support Agents are responsible for handling customer support tickets.

The Support Agent can:

  • View support tickets
  • Work on assigned issues
  • Update ticket information
  • Manage ticket status
  • Manage ticket priority
  • Resolve customer issues

This module helps support teams manage their daily workload efficiently.

🙋 User Module

Users interact with the application primarily to create and track their support requests.

The User can:

  • Log in securely
  • Create support tickets
  • View ticket information
  • Track ticket status
  • Monitor the progress of support requests

How the Support Ticket Management System Works

The application follows a client-server architecture.
